Club Westerner / Victoria, Texas
Welcome to the Club Westerner one of
Texas’ oldest and most famous dance halls. Located at 1005 W. Constitution
street, just 6 blocks from downtown Victoria, Texas. This rustic but recently
renovated treasure has been the sight of countless musical, political and
social events since 1929. If one listens closely enough, the voices of such
musical stars like Willie Nelson, Fats Domino, B.J. Thomas, The Moods and Desi Arnez can
still be heard. Tejano greats like Little Joe, Sunny and the Sunliners and
Ruben and Alfonso Ramos still grace the music mecca with their presence.
Governor John Conally, Lt. Governor Bill Hobby and U.S. Senators Lloyd Bentsen
and Phil Ghram all cut their political teeth at the Club Westerner.
This grand old hall built on the banks of the mighty Guadalupe
river, was only part of a more notable gathering place in
historic Victoria, known as Pleasure Island. In addition to the dance hall,
that old time theme park included a skating rink, an Olympic size swimming pool
and a baseball field. For the past fifty-three (53) plus years, the Club
Westerner has been owned and operated by the John M. Villafranca Family and its
heirs.
